Licensed RCIC guidance on British Columbia’s Entrepreneur Immigration Base Category in 2026: open but competitive, with net worth, investment and job-creation requirements.

British Columbia’s Entrepreneur Immigration Base Category is open in 2026 but selection is competitive. This page explains the thresholds, the staged work permit first process, and the common officer concerns, reviewed by a licensed RCIC.

Current status: British Columbia’s Entrepreneur Immigration Base Category is open, but selection is by competitive invitation draw, and the number of invitations in each draw is small. Registering does not guarantee an invitation.

1. What the BC Entrepreneur Base Category is

British Columbia’s Entrepreneur Immigration Base Category is one of the more active provincial business routes in 2026, and it is open, but it is competitive. Selection happens through invitation draws, and each draw invites only a small number of registrants. Registering an expression of interest does not guarantee an invitation, and an invitation does not guarantee a nomination.

2. Eligibility at a glance

The core eligibility factors are clear. The province looks for a minimum personal net worth of $600,000 and a minimum investment of $200,000 in an eligible British Columbia business, with ownership of at least one-third of the business, and the business must create at least one new full-time job for a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. For experience, applicants generally need either a combination of at least one year as an active business owner-manager and two years as a senior manager within the last ten years, or at least three of the past five years as a 100 percent owner-manager, along with language ability at CLB 4. Certain business types, such as purely passive investments and some real estate activities, are not eligible.

3. The staged process: work permit first

The process is staged and starts with a temporary work permit. You register and are scored, and if you are invited you submit a full application within the required window, with your net worth verified by an authorized firm. If you are approved, you sign a performance agreement and receive a letter of support, you apply for a work permit, you move to British Columbia within the allowed time, and you implement your business plan. After operating and meeting the agreed terms, with a final report typically due between eighteen and twenty months after your arrival, the province can confirm your nomination, which you then use to apply federally for permanent residence.

4. Source of funds and net worth verification

Because net worth verification is mandatory and the business concept is scored, the strongest applications combine a clean documented source of funds with a realistic, well-supported business plan. This is where the RCIC plus CPA approach is most useful, since the financial evidence and the plan are exactly what British Columbia evaluates.

5. Common officer concerns and ineligible businesses

Applications commonly run into trouble when the source of funds is not fully documented, when the business concept is weak or unrealistic for the local market, or when the proposed business is an ineligible type such as a purely passive investment or certain real estate activities. Preparing for these concerns in advance matters.

6. How MAK helps

We assess whether your profile is competitive for current draw scores before you commit to a registration, prepare the funds and business documentation, and manage the filing.
