Prince Edward Island’s business immigration route is the Work Permit Stream. This page explains the current draw data, the thresholds, and the staged process, reviewed by a licensed RCIC.
Current status: Prince Edward Island still operates an expression of interest system, but official 2026 draw data shows no business invitations so far, with invitations directed to in-demand sectors. The older refundable deposit framing is outdated. This is not a permanent closure; the business route is effectively inactive in practice right now.

1. PEI business route: the Work Permit Stream2. Eligibility at a glance3. The staged process: work permit first4. Source of funds and net worth verification5. How MAK helpsPrince Edward Island’s business immigration route is the Work Permit Stream, which earlier material may still call the Business Impact stream. Before looking at the requirements, the current status is the key fact. The province still operates an expression of interest system, but official 2026 draw data shows no business invitations so far, with invitations going to in-demand sectors such as healthcare, trades and manufacturing. This is not a permanent closure, but it does mean the business route is effectively inactive in practice right now. We also flag that the older refundable deposit framing, where applicants were said to place a large deposit, is outdated and no longer reflects how the stream works.
The eligibility factors remain defined for when the business route is actively inviting. The province looks for a minimum personal net worth of $600,000, verified by a designated firm, and a minimum investment of $150,000 into the Prince Edward Island business within twelve months of arriving, with evidence of meaningful operating expenses. Applicants are assessed on transferable management skills and prior ownership or senior management experience, with a minimum language level of CLB 4. There is no mandatory exploratory visit, but there is a mandatory in-person interview as part of the process.
| Current status | Work Permit Stream; official 2026 draw data shows no business invitations so far |
|---|---|
| Net worth (minimum threshold) | $600,000, verified by a designated firm |
| Investment (minimum threshold) | $150,000 within 12 months of landing |
| Old refundable deposit | Outdated; no longer the model |
| Business experience | Transferable management / prior ownership, points-assessed |
| Language | CLB 4 minimum |
| Exploratory visit | Not mandatory; in-person interview is mandatory |
| Work permit first? | Yes |
| Nomination / PR stage | Operate at least 12 consecutive months, meet conditions, then possible nomination, then PR |
The process is staged and starts with a temporary work permit. After an expression of interest is invited, you complete a mandatory net worth verification, submit your application, attend the interview, and sign a performance agreement. The province then issues a letter supporting your work permit, you move to Prince Edward Island and report within the required window, and you operate the business for at least twelve consecutive months while meeting the investment and presence conditions. Only after meeting these terms can you be considered for a nomination and then apply federally for permanent residence.
Because the business route is not currently inviting, the realistic plan for most people is to prepare and monitor rather than expect an immediate invitation. A verified net worth, a clean source of funds and a credible operating plan are the elements that matter most, and they are exactly what our RCIC plus CPA approach helps you assemble.
We assess your fit, prepare the financial and business documentation, and keep you informed if the business draws resume.
