The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program Graduate Entrepreneur Stream is for international graduates of approved publicly funded Alberta post-secondary institutions who start or buy and actively operate a business in Alberta. It is open and currently accepting Expressions of Interest in 2026. You submit an Expression of Interest, and the highest ranking candidates are invited to submit a business application. An Expression of Interest does not guarantee an invitation, and an invitation does not guarantee a nomination.
2. Eligibility at a glance
The province generally looks for graduation from an approved publicly funded Alberta post-secondary institution after at least two years of full-time study, a valid post-graduation work permit at the time you submit your Expression of Interest, language ability at CLB or NCLC 7 in all four abilities, and a plan to establish or buy an Alberta business in which you hold at least one third ownership. Your investment and business factors are scored, so the strength of the business concept matters.

3. Who this is for
This stream fits recent graduates of Alberta institutions who genuinely intend to run a business in Alberta, who meet the language and post-graduation work permit requirements, and who have a realistic, well supported business concept.
4. Who this is not for
It is not for graduates of institutions outside Alberta, who should look at the Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur Stream instead, nor for passive investors. Applicants without a post-graduation work permit or the required language level would not currently qualify.
5. The staged process
You submit an Expression of Interest, and if invited you submit a business application. If approved, you establish or operate your Alberta business and meet the program conditions, and Alberta can then issue a nomination, which you use to apply federally for permanent residence. The strength of your business and your documented funds drive the outcome.
6. Source of funds and business plan
Because your investment and business concept are scored and assessed, the strongest applications pair a clean, documented and legal source of funds with a realistic business plan. Our work combines a licensed Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant with a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, Ontario, C83028834), so the financial evidence and the business plan are prepared to the standard Alberta evaluates.
7. Common officer concerns
Applications commonly run into trouble when the business concept is weak, when the source of funds is not documented, or when eligibility details such as the qualifying institution, the post-graduation work permit, or the language level are not clearly met. Each of these requires full review.
