Settle

There are more preparations that one can do before moving to Canada. This makes it easier to settle in after arrival. This will leave one with few necessities to acquire and legal documents to obtain after arrival, leading to a successful start. We will have to put together 5 tips to help one get settled in Canada.

What should Immigrants Do during Their First Week in Canada?

When new immigrants move to Canada, many are a little lost on what they should do to start their new lives.

The following are our top items to help prepare you:

Housing in Canada

When having plans to live in Canada, there are two options. Either find a temporary place to live when you arrive, such as a hotel, hostel, Airbnb, friend’s house, for short-term housing while you can wait to find a place you want to settle into or we recommend you have a reservation and a room.

 Health Insurance

Canadian Citizens and permanent residents can apply for public health insurance in Canada which varies depending on the place of residence. Each province has different insurance plans.

Banking in Canada

After arriving in Canada, you will need a Canadian bank account. Opening a Canadian bank account is the easiest way to send or receive money to other countries and to facilitate domestic transactions as well.

Social Insurance number

When you get to Canada, you need to get yourself a Social Insurance Number to work. It also gives you access to government programs and benefits.

Get help from Organizations for newcomers

There are certain organizations that may help you to find a place to live or complete paperwork before your arrival. The local organizations can also help in settling you in Canada. You can also turn to them if you have questions about administrative procedures or finding a job.
