Insights into Express Entry: A Deep Dive into Invitation Trends and Program Preferences in Canadian Immigration

Recent public disclosures by the Canadian government include details about the Express Entry applicants who were most frequently encouraged to apply for permanent status in Canada. From January to September 2023, 53,455 ITAs were given according to the statistics provided below, which apply to draws conducted by IRCC.

Express Entry is responsible for processing applications for various federal programs, including the Foreign Skilled Worker (FSWP), Federal Skilled Trades (FSTP), Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and a portion of the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). In its study, the government examined multiple factors including program type, province, age, CRS score, and employment.

Approximately 50% of Invitations to Apply (ITAs) are given to candidates who fall under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) category, as per the data. In particular, individuals in their twenties, especially those with a software engineering background who intend to establish themselves in Ontario, are the most probable candidates to receive ITAs.

Within this group, individuals in their 20s, particularly software engineers intending to settle in Ontario, were most likely to receive ITAs. In terms of programs, CEC candidates led with 23,910 ITAs, constituting almost 45%, followed by FSWP with 30% (15,855 ITAs) and PNP with 26% (13,655 ITAs).

In terms of provinces, approximately 50% of ITAs were granted to candidates in or bound for Ontario, with British Columbia, Alberta, and Nova Scotia following with 10,655, 5,280, and 1,595 ITAs respectively. There were fewer than 1,500 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) distributed to other provinces.

Other provinces received fewer than 1,500 ITAs. Breaking down ITAs by age, the data revealed that individuals aged 19-29 secured the highest number, with 28,970 ITAs, while those in the 30-39 age group received 20,865 ITAs. Applicants aged 40 and above collectively received fewer than 4,000 ITAs.
