Canada is reuniting families – Approval rate of 93% as per IRCC news release

The unity of families is particularly evident during significant life events, such as relocating to a different country. Canada is endeavoring to facilitate the process of family reunification and enhance the support provided to families upon their arrival in the country.

The Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has declared the acceleration of the processing of temporary resident visas (TRVs) and the implementation of more relaxed measures to facilitate family reunification during the processing of permanent residency applications. In the future, a majority of these applications are expected to undergo processing within a time frame of 30 days. A significant proportion of applications have undergone processing through the employment of these novel tools and have demonstrated a commendable approval rate of 93%.

The new measures include:

1) Faster temporary resident visa (TRV) processing times for spousal applicants

2) New and dedicated processing tools for spousal TRV applicants

3) A new open work permit for spousal and family class applicants

4) Open work permit extensions for open work permit holders expiring between August 1 and the end of 2023

Upon arrival in Canada, immigrants frequently pursue employment opportunities to provide financial support for their families. Canada has implemented the provision of open work permits for spousal applicants and their dependent children who are residing with their sponsor in Canada and possess temporary resident status. Under the family class programme, it is now possible for spouses, partners, and dependents to obtain an open work permit immediately upon submission of a comprehensive permanent residence application.

The IRCC minister has been quoted as follows:

“Family reunification through immigration is not only a matter of compassion; it is a fundamental pillar of Canadian society. Today’s announcement is a mandate commitment to help build inclusive and resilient communities. We are supporting Canadians and newcomers by reuniting families faster, and also allowing them to work and support themselves more quickly once they’re here. By doing so, Canada is helping newcomers achieve their true potential, while also strengthening Canada’s economy and social fabric.”

– The Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship
