Consider studying in Canada? You can speed up the study permit process. The Canadian government launched the Student Direct Stream (SDS) initiative to speed up admission for students from specified nations.
SDS Program Understanding
International students can get study permits faster through the Student Direct Stream (SDS). Some applications may take longer than 20 days, but this program promises a faster turnaround. Although the SDS processes faster, a study permit alone does not authorize entry into Canada. A visiting visa or electronic travel authorization may be required, depending on your nationality.
The SDS eligibility criteria
For SDS benefits, candidates must meet certain requirements:
Country of Residence: You must live in Antigua and Barbuda, Brazil, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, India, Morocco, Pakistan, Peru, the Philippines, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Senegal, Trinidad and Tobago, or Vietnam.
Acceptance Letter: A Canadian post-secondary DLI acceptance letter is required.
Medical Exam: Required if you lived or traveled in specific countries for six months or more in the last year or plan to work in healthcare, primary or secondary education, or childcare.
Police Certificate: Proof of Canadian membership without criminal charges.
The Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) validates your intention to study in a province or territory.
Language proficiency: Language Proficiency involves passing an English or French test.
Quebec Attestation: To study in Quebec, you need a Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ) from the immigration ministry.
Financial Proof: Proof of full first-year tuition payment.
The Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) from an eligible Canadian financial institution will cover living expenses.
What is a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC)?
GICs are Canadian investments that promise a guaranteed return over time. TD and other Canadian banks provide international student GICs. These typically come with no application fees, a simple online application, and support from many Canadian branches.
SDS Study Permit Application Process
Prepare Your Documents: You will need your DLI acceptance letter, tuition payment evidence, GIC, language test results, medical test results, police certificates, and provincial attestation letter.
Apply Online: Apply via the IRCC website. Double-check accuracy and completeness to avoid delays or rejection.
Track Your App: After submitting your IRCC application number, monitor your application status online. Faster processing is typical for SDS applications. Track your application online after submission. Your UCI and application number are required.
After Submitting Your Application
If approved, IRCC will provide an introduction letter. Upon arrival in Canada, present this letter along with your eTA or visiting visa to the immigration officer. Verify all research permit information.
If denied, you can appeal or reapply with updated information. Examine the reasons for rejection and address them in your new application.
By following these instructions and understanding SDS criteria, you may simplify your study permit application and start your Canadian education with confidence.
