Quick Answer

A traveller using a Pakistani passport normally needs a Canadian visitor visa (temporary resident visa) before travelling to Canada. Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and travellers using another passport should check their own status. There is no universal fixed document list or bank-statement rule - your personalized IRCC checklist sets what you upload, and the officer must be satisfied you will leave at the end of your visit. As of July 2026 the government fee is CAD 100 per person, plus CAD 85 for biometrics in most cases. IRCC makes all final decisions.

Canada Visit Visa Requirements for Pakistan: 2026 Full Checklist

Many applicants are unsure why a Canada visit visa can be refused. IRCC may refuse an application when the officer is not satisfied that the applicant meets the temporary-residence requirements, including eligibility, admissibility, available funds, purpose of travel and the likelihood of leaving Canada at the end of the authorized stay. A complete, well-prepared application cannot guarantee approval, but it helps the officer assess your situation and reduces avoidable gaps. That is why we have prepared a detailed 2026 checklist aligned with the IRCC criteria.

Before you move forward, you should be clear that the tourist visa and visitor visa are the same visa, and there are no separate requirements for them.

Do Pakistani Citizens Need a Visa to Visit Canada?

Yes. A traveller using a Pakistani passport normally needs a Canadian visitor visa before travelling to Canada. You can apply for a visit visa if your purpose is any of these:

  • Travel
  • Family visit
  • Business meeting
  • Short course or training

You can check the official IRCC entry requirements by country (including Pakistan) for the latest rules.

Eligibility Criteria – Canada Visitor Visa from Pakistan

To meet the eligibility criteria for Canada visit visa from Pakistan, you have to prove that:

  • You are admissible to Canada, for example with no relevant criminal or security inadmissibility.
  • You have enough money for the length and circumstances of your stay.
  • You are not inadmissible to Canada, including on health, criminal, or security grounds.
  • You can show a credible, temporary purpose for the visit, and can satisfy an officer that you will leave Canada at the end of your authorized stay.

Read till the end to know how you can prove these criteria, as we will be giving a detailed breakdown below.

Complete Document Checklist – Canada Visit Visa Requirements for Pakistan

We get a lot of questions from confused applicants like “What documents are required for Canada visit visa from Pakistan?” or “How to apply for a Canada visa from Pakistan?” With this complete document guide, all of these questions will be answered, and you can have a smooth application process.

1. Valid Pakistani Passport

Your passport must be valid and should comfortably cover your planned stay. IRCC’s current visitor-visa application instructions say your passport or travel document should be valid for at least six months from the date you plan to travel, so renew it first if the remaining validity is short. A visa cannot be issued beyond your passport’s validity. Include at least one blank page for the visa. You should also include copies of your previous travel history.

2. IMM 5257 Application Form

Follow the forms, online fields and document checklist generated for the application method you use. Applicants using the IRCC Portal complete the online form in the portal. Other application methods may require IMM 5257. For method-specific instructions, see the IRCC IMM 5257 application guide.

3. Family Information Form (IMM 5645 or 5707)

In this form, you will have to provide details of your parents, siblings, spouse, and children. In the context of Canada visitor visa requirements for Pakistani citizens, this form is important because it helps the visa officer to understand your family ties.

4. Photos

All the digital photos you upload should meet strict IRCC photo specifications

5. Proof of Funds

This is an important part of the Canada visit visa documents checklist for Pakistan. There is no single fixed amount or universal rule requiring a set number of months of bank statements. Your personalized IRCC checklist and the Pakistan visa office instructions set what to provide, commonly your recent transaction history and average balance rather than a blanket six months. Show a consistent history, and give a clear source for any large deposit.

6. Proof of Ties

To show ties you commonly provide documents such as a Family Registration Certificate (FRC), employment letters, property documents or business registration, as applicable to your situation. No single document is universally mandatory, and no one document guarantees a finding of strong ties.

7. Itinerary & Purpose

You need to also provide your travel plan. In this, a clear travel plan may include intended dates, accommodation arrangements and a simple itinerary. Do not buy non-refundable travel solely for the visa application unless IRCC specifically requires it.

8. Invitation & Inviter’s Docs

If visiting family, an invitation letter from your host can help (it is not mandatory in every case). You should also include the inviter’s Canadian PR card or Citizenship certificate and their financial documents if they are sponsoring your stay.

9. Biometrics

Most Pakistani applicants between the ages of 14 and 79 must provide fingerprints and a photo. Review the biometrics requirements for Canada visitor visa from Pakistan and book biometrics at VFS Pakistan once you receive your Biometric Instruction Letter (BIL). Temporary-residence biometrics are generally valid for ten years, so if you gave biometrics for a Canadian application within that period you may not need to give them again.

10. Medical Exam

The medical requirements for Canada visit visa from Pakistan generally do not apply to a short visit. For a stay of more than six months, an immigration medical exam is required if you have lived in or travelled to a designated country or territory for six consecutive months or more in the year before coming to Canada, if you will work in a job where public health must be protected, or if you are applying for a parent and grandparent Super Visa. Check IRCC’s current medical-exam requirements. A police certificate is not a routine requirement but may be requested. Refer to the IRCC medical exam information for details.

11. Police Certificate

A police certificate is not necessary for everyone when on a 6-month visa, but police certificate requirements for Canada visit visa from Pakistan may apply to you if the officer requests. See the IRCC police certificate information for guidance.

12. Translations

Documents not in English or French must be submitted with an English or French translation and the other items required by IRCC, which may include an affidavit from the translator and a certified copy of the original. Follow the instructions for the application method and document type. This is an important part of the Canada visit visa documents checklist for Pakistan.

Step-by-Step: Meeting the Requirements in the Online Application

When you apply through your IRCC online account, the system creates a checklist just for you based on your answers. It is important to answer accurately so that all Canada visit visa requirements for Pakistan appear correctly in your portal.

Document Uploads: Each upload slot, like proof of funds, has a size limit. You might need to combine several PDFs into one file.

Client Information: This is the “Letter of Explanation” (LOE) section. Use it to explain anything that isn’t clear in your documents, like a large bank deposit or a gap in your work history.

Consistency: Make sure the dates on your itinerary match the dates on your application form.

Proof of Funds Requirements – Pakistan-Focused Guidance

This is the only requirement where a lot of Pakistanis get confused, such as how much money is needed for a Canada visit visa from Pakistan. But there is no exact amount of money that is needed; it depends on the duration of your trip, the purpose of your travel, or if you have any sponsors. However, you must show enough money for the proposed length and circumstances of your trip, including transportation, accommodation and ordinary expenses where applicable.

Income Proof: recent income evidence such as salary slips, an employment letter or business income records helps; follow the period your personalized checklist requests rather than assuming a fixed number of months.
Stability: your account should not have any sudden, large amounts of money out of the blue without any proof, as it can raise a red flag.

Sponsorship: for a host-funded or shared-cost trip, evidence may include a host invitation or support letter, proof of the host’s status, proof of the relationship, and financial evidence relevant to the proposed support. The exact evidence depends on the application.

These requirements are in place to make sure you can afford your trip and that you have a genuine source of income.

How to Show Strong Ties to Pakistan (with Examples)

Strong ties to Pakistan means that the visa officers want to know if you have a reason to go back to your own country after your visit.

  • Economic Ties: if you have a permanent job, or a registered business with NTN/Tax returns, or if you have your own property like a house or plot in Pakistan, any of these shows your intention to return to Pakistan.
  • Social Ties: Social ties may be supported by relevant family-status records, including an FRC where applicable and available, together with evidence showing the applicant’s actual family circumstances. No single document proves strong ties on its own.

Example: someone who has been in a job for 5 years and has his own plot in Pakistan has stronger ties to Pakistan than a fresh graduate with no job or property.

Other Tips: If you have a job, then an employer letter confirming your position and approved leave supports your ties (some applicants also include a No Objection Certificate (NOC) where their employer issues one). This shows that your employer has given you leave, and you will be doing your job when you return.

If you are still stuck in this whole process, then our licensed RCICs can help you to show strong reasons for returning to Pakistan.

Special Cases – Family Visits, Business Visits, Super Visa

There are different document requirements for different types of visits to Canada, such as;

  • Family Visits: You need to show that your family is really there in Canada. Evidence of the relationship may include civil-status records such as birth certificates or a Family Registration Certificate (FRC) where relevant and available; the personalized checklist and the facts of the visit determine what to submit.
  • Business Visitors: if you are visiting for business purposes, then a letter from the Canadian company and a letter from your Pakistani employer explaining the purpose of the trip can support your application, where applicable. If you plan to stay more than just visiting, check Canada’s business immigration programs.
  • Parents/Grandparents: if your parents or grandparents are visiting, then a Super Visa may be an option to consider for a longer stay, depending on their circumstances. You can check the IRCC Super Visa details and our guide on Super Visa requirements for parents and grandparents.

Common Refusal Reasons Linked to Missing or Weak Requirements

IRCC may refuse an application when the officer is not satisfied that the applicant meets the temporary-residence requirements, including the purpose of travel, available funds, admissibility and the likelihood of leaving Canada at the end of the authorized stay.

Common Issues:

  • Not a specific reason to visit.
  • Lack of funds or no proof of income or money.
  • There are no strong ties to Pakistan that shows you will return after your visit.
  • Your documents are not in English or French, or a required certified translation is missing.

You can review the official IRCC warning about fraud and misrepresentation so you don’t make these mistakes.

Explaining a recent large deposit (source of funds)

  • Show the source of any large amount that is not consistent with your usual history.
  • Keep documents: property sale deed, loan or gift letter, business income records, prior account transfers.
  • Avoid moving a lump sum into the account just before applying with no explanation.
  • A steady history that matches your income is stronger than a single large balance.

If you were refused before: a simple decision framework

  • Get and read the actual refusal reasons before doing anything else.
  • Ask what changed since the refusal - funds, ties, purpose or documentation.
  • Fix the specific weakness the officer identified; do not just resubmit the same file.
  • Always disclose the previous refusal in the new application - non-disclosure is treated more seriously than the refusal itself.
  • If the reason is unclear or repeated, a licensed RCIC review can help you decide the next step.
