Current eligibility, rural community support, investment and net-worth requirements, the EOI process, business evidence and the work-permit-to-nomination path.
Reviewed September 20, 2026 against current Government of Alberta AAIP instructions. The Rural Entrepreneur Stream is currently accepting Expressions of Interest. It is for qualified entrepreneurs who want to start a new business or buy an existing business in a participating rural Alberta community. Meeting the minimum criteria does not guarantee an invitation, business-application approval, nomination or permanent residence.
AAIP states that entrepreneur candidates must show a credible and substantial likelihood of establishing, actively managing, operating and sustaining a viable Alberta business as an owner-operator. Current factors can include the Alberta business presence and day-to-day management plan, business viability and sustainability, expected economic contribution, whether hiring and salary projections are realistic, the applicant’s experience and financial capacity, and regulatory readiness.
This makes the business plan more than a narrative document. The ownership structure, investment, source of funds, market assumptions, operating model, staffing and financial projections should tell one consistent story.
For the Business Application stage, AAIP requires its approved Qualified Service Providers to complete the prescribed business-plan evaluation and net-worth/business-investment assessment reports. MAK’s immigration and financial-evidence work does not replace those AAIP-mandated reports.
Before that stage, a candidate still benefits from reconciling the documentary trail: where the funds came from, who owns them, how the net worth is supported, what amount will actually be invested, and whether the business-plan financials match the proposed Alberta operation. See MAK’s Source of Funds for Business Immigration, Business Plan for Canadian Immigration, and Provincial Entrepreneur Financial Verification Matrix.

A file-specific review is useful before an exploratory visit or EOI when the proposed business, community fit, ownership structure, source of funds, net worth evidence or business plan needs to be tested against the current AAIP framework.
