The federal immigration ministry of Canada is commonly referred to as IRCC which has recently declared its acceptance of language assessment results from four additional tests for foreign nationals wishing to apply for a study permit under the Student Direct Streams.
Starting in August of 2023, the following exams will be approved:
- CELPIP General
- PTE Academic
- CAEL
- TOEFL iBT
The proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing must be evidenced by all test outcomes in order to be eligible under this study permit stream.

What is the IRCC’s student direct stream?
SDS stream launched by IRCC facilitates expedited processing of study permits for international students planning to enroll and study in a post-secondary designated learning institution in Canada.
What is the eligibility criteria?
Must be a resident of one of the participating countries:
Antigua and Barbuda
Brazil
China
Colombia
Costa Rica
India
Morocco
Pakistan
Peru
Philippines
Senegal
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
Trinidad and Tobago
Vietnam
-Have letter of acceptance from post-secondary designated learning institute
-Have paid your tuition fee for the first year of study
-Have a Guaranteed Investment Certificate of $10,000 CAD
-Have medical exam prior to applying
-Get a police certificate prior to applying
-IELTS academic or general with no less than 6.0 band in each component (reading, writing, -speaking and listening)
